Belle Place Elementary School
New Iberia, LA
DIVISION
Southern Constructors was selected by the Iberia Parish School Board in June 2017 to build the new Belle Place Elementary School, located behind Belle Place Middle School on LeBourgeois Road. Groundbreaking on July 31, 2017 marked the start of extensive civil and structural work, including site clearing, deep foundations, and new utility installations. Our team poured reinforced concrete foundations and slabs, erected a steel structural system, and executed full building envelope construction—roofing, metal studs, exterior masonry, and storefront glazing. Inside, we installed modern electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, data infrastructure, classroom technology, security cameras, and an upgraded card-access system. A signature feature is the covered car-rider canopy, engineered for durability and community safety.
Despite a near‑$12.6 million scope, we maintained rigorous quality control and scheduling discipline, achieving substantial completion by June 5, 2019, just in time for the 2019–20 school year with only a few punch items remaining such as final carpet and woodwork touch-ups. The project included coordination meetings with faculty, staff, and students transitioning from the closed Dodson Elementary (about 40% of whom relocated) to ensure functional readiness and community buy-in.
Southern Constructors is proud to have delivered a modern, secure, and fully functional educational facility—from deep site utilities to high-tech learning spaces—that will serve approximately 350 students and support community growth for decades.
